I feel your pain. Even this morning driving to work I just felt sad and hopeless looking at the rubbish in the verges. Every single item purposely thrown out a window by someone who doesn’t give a fuck about our planet. That a lot of fucks not given.

My regular dog walks with a bin bag do very little to counter this but I will keep going because somebody has to give a fuck.

The small actions matter because they begin to resonate, like a background hum, which eventually will become a roar :>

Moan away! I agree with every sentiment expressed. I live on the shores of Strangford Lough in Co Down. There are many lanes lead to the water and during covid it seems that these were considered absolutely appropriate for dumping rubbish, including what appeared to be the results of a house clearance. I wept. It hasn't stopped. It's as if for some the countryside is unproductive land begging to be used no matter how and it's cheaper than fees at the dump. We just have yo keep picking up, and educating our children, and in my case my children's children.

That’s awful. A certain amount of littering and fly-tipping is the direct result of local council policy - when people have to pay for litter collection and people are strapped for cash then the environment is the silent sufferer. The sad thing is that this is a policy based on an insane and destructive capitalist grift in which a few benefit to the poverty of the land. It needs a shift in perspective.

Absolutely. This is an AONB which in some ways makes it worse. You are right about councils charging for waste that exceeds domestic waste. They also won't lift it on farm land so as land owners have to pay it lies for some time doing even more environmental harm. All while the council is pushing ecotourism 🤷‍♀️

It’s so bizarre - like something from a satirical novel from the mind Kurt Vonnegut or the likes.

Accountability is such a rare quality seen these days. It’s always someone else’s fault; they made me do it. Its close partner, respect, also on the endangered list. To respect ourselves and others, would reflect our ability to care for everything else, including the environment and kin within.

I don’t understand the mindset of the litterer either, but I suspect they need to work on their own inner house keeping first.

I agree. Inward often manifests outward.
